In many organizations, no single department owns all of these issues. Effective response often requires coordination among legal, compliance, cybersecurity, product, engineering, and trust & safety teams.
Organizations should also periodically evaluate whether existing governance frameworks remain adequate as models, user behavior, and regulatory expectations evolve.
Looking Ahead
The legal and regulatory landscape surrounding generative AI is developing rapidly. Although many questions involving synthetic content remain unsettled, organizations should not assume that the absence of AI-specific legislation eliminates existing legal exposure.
Generative AI governance increasingly requires proactive planning rather than reactive moderation. Companies that invest early in governance, escalation, and trust & safety infrastructure will likely be better positioned to respond effectively as regulatory scrutiny and enforcement expectations continue to evolve.
